1. Getting Started

What is the first step to get started?

Start with a free 45-minute consultation. We review your concerns, screen for common patterns (breathing, sleep, oral posture, habits, jaw function), and outline the best next step.

Do I need to be a patient first to get a free consultation?

No. The free consultation is specifically designed for new patients who want clarity before booking a full assessment.

Does my child need to be present at the Free first consultation?

Many parents prefer to come alone first to gather information and ask questions before involving their child. There’s no physical examination at this stage, so it’s completely up to you.

Do I need a referral?

A referral is welcome, but not required. If a dentist, orthodontist, physician, ENT, or other provider is involved, we’re happy to coordinate care and send updates with your consent.

What should I bring to my consultation?

Bring any relevant information you already have (examples: sleep study summary, ENT notes, orthodontic plan, dental imaging reports, or a short list of symptoms and goals). If you don’t have anything, that’s fine.

2. Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy basics

What is Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy?

Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy is muscle retraining for the mouth, face, tongue, and breathing pattern. It focuses on restoring healthier oral posture, nasal breathing habits, swallowing function, and muscle balance.

What concerns do you commonly help with?

Common reasons people book include:

  • Mouth breathing or trouble keeping lips closed
  • Snoring, unrefreshing sleep, daytime fatigue
  • Jaw tension, clenching/grinding, clicking, limited opening
  • Headaches/facial discomfort linked to muscle strain
  • Orthodontic relapse risk (tongue posture / swallow patterns)
  • Oral habits (thumb/finger sucking, nail biting, chewing habits)
  • Post-frenectomy exercise support (tongue/lip tie release aftercare)

How does this therapy work?

We assess patterns, then teach targeted exercises and daily habits that build new function over time. Progress is supported with coaching, check-ins, and clear home practice plans.

Is this the same as physiotherapy or speech therapy?

There can be overlap, but Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy is its own focused scope: orofacial muscle function + breathing + oral posture + swallow patterns. We often collaborate with dentistry, orthodontics, ENT, and other providers when helpful.

Can children do Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy?

Yes. Programs are adapted for age, attention, and development. Parent/guardian support at home is often part of success.

Can adults do Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy?

Yes. Adults often seek help for breathing/sleep concerns, jaw tension, headaches, oral posture, and orthodontic stability.

Can I do therapy even if I’ve had orthodontics before?

Yes! In fact, many adults come to us after braces or Invisalign to address underlying habits like tongue thrust, clenching, or mouth breathing that may have contributed to orthodontic relapse.

Is my child too young for myofunctional therapy?

We work with children as young as 3 if they’re able to follow simple instructions. If you're unsure, we recommend starting with a free consultation—we'll help you decide if now is the right time or if it's better to wait.

What makes your clinic different?

We focus exclusively on Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy, and we combine clinical skill with personal coaching. Our team takes time to understand your goals and helps you make changes that stick.

3. Treatment Programs

What happens after the free consultation?

If you’re a good fit, the next step is a New Patient Exam (2 hours). This is a detailed assessment where we measure patterns and create a clear plan.

What does the New Patient Exam include?

Typically includes:

  • Breathing pattern + oral posture review
  • Oral habit screening
  • Swallow function review (saliva/liquid/food patterns as appropriate)
  • Jaw and facial muscle screening (range of motion and function)
  • Customized plan with priorities and home practice strategy

How long does a program take?

It depends on your goals and starting patterns. Many patients work with us for multiple months, with progress building step-by-step.

How often are appointments?

Most patients are seen every 2–3 weeks. This spacing supports learning, home practice, and steady progression.

Do I need to practice at home?

Yes. Progress depends on consistent home practice. We keep it realistic and clear so it fits into real life.

Do you work with braces, aligners, or after orthodontics?

Yes. Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy can support functional stability by addressing tongue posture, swallow patterns, and oral habits that can contribute to relapse risk.

Do you support post-frenectomy exercises?

Yes. We can support function-focused exercises before and after a release, and collaborate with the provider performing the procedure.

4. Appointments & Scheduling

What happens if I need to reschedule?

Please contact us as soon as possible. We’ll do our best to find a new time that works and keep your plan moving forward.

Do you offer virtual appointments?

Yes, some appointments can be virtual depending on the goal and what needs to be assessed or coached.

Can you help if I’m not sure which appointment to book?

Yes. If you’re unsure, start with the free consultation and we’ll guide the next best step.

5. Insurance & Payments

Is Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy covered by insurance?

Coverage varies by plan. Many patients submit receipts to their insurer for possible reimbursement. We recommend checking directly with your provider.

What insurance code do patients commonly use?

Many plans use code 05012 for Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy exercise appointments / related appointments, but coverage depends on your specific insurer and plan.

Do you direct-bill insurance?

If your plan requires self-submission, we provide receipts so you can submit easily. (If direct billing becomes available, we will state it clearly on the booking/payment page.)
